GPS Speed Not Showing? A Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

If SpeedX shows zero or no speed, first distinguish a tool that has not started from one that cannot receive data. A stationary zero may be normal; zero while moving deserves a few checks.

1. Start the tool on a secure page

Open the online speedometer through the siteโ€™s HTTPS address and press Start. Before starting, the display is not evidence of a live measurement. Geolocation requires a secure context in supported browsers.

2. Check both permission layers

Allow location for the website and for the browser in your operating system. If you previously denied access, change the site permission in browser settings; reloading alone may not prompt again. On a phone, enable precise location if that setting is available. Permission controls vary by OS and browser version.

3. Test outdoors

Move to an open area away from roofs and tall buildings. Give the device time to obtain fresh readings, then take a short walk. Check the accuracy and signal status alongside speed. The shown position accuracy in meters is not a direct speed-error estimate in km/h.

4. Separate location from speed

Open the GPS coordinates tool. If coordinates update but speed stays unavailable, the provider may not supply a speed field. This can happen on computers using network-based location. The SpeedX web speedometer does not calculate replacement speed from successive coordinates, so working coordinates alone cannot fix it.

If coordinates also fail, revisit permissions, reception and the deviceโ€™s location settings before changing tools.

5. Retry without background interruptions

Keep the page visible and the screen awake for a short test. If it works there but stops after locking, the system may be suspending browser updates. Try the normal browser rather than an embedded browser, or compare with the installed app under the same conditions.

Still failing?

When contacting support, include device, OS, browser, whether you were outdoors, permission status, and whether coordinates updated. Do not share your exact location unless necessary. A different app may expose different data, but no app can guarantee satellite reception through an obstructed sky.
